Plagiarism Policy

1. Introduction
Istiqsha: Adnin Journal of Integrative Islamic Inquiry upholds the highest standards of academic integrity and originality. Every manuscript submitted to the journal must represent the author’s own work and reflect accurate scholarly contribution without any form of plagiarism, duplication, or unethical citation practices.

2. Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism refers to presenting another person’s ideas, data, or words as one’s own without proper acknowledgment. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Copying text, figures, or tables from previously published works without citation.
  • Paraphrasing substantial portions of another’s work without credit.
  • Self-plagiarism — reusing significant parts of one’s own previously published or submitted work without disclosure or citation.
  • Submitting a manuscript that has been published elsewhere or is under review by another journal.

3. Screening Process
All submitted manuscripts are subject to a plagiarism screening process using reliable detection software such as Turnitin or iThenticate prior to peer review.

  • The acceptable similarity index is below 20%, excluding references, quotes, and standard methodology descriptions.
  • Manuscripts exceeding this limit will be returned to the author for revision or rejected outright if plagiarism is evident.
  • The editorial team reserves the right to recheck the manuscript at any stage before publication.

4. Handling of Plagiarism Cases
If plagiarism is detected:

  • Before publication – The manuscript will be rejected immediately. The author(s) will be informed, and their future submissions may be barred for a specific period.
  • After publication – The article will be retracted, and a retraction notice will be published online and in the subsequent issue. The author’s institution may also be notified.

5. Author's Responsibility
Authors are responsible for ensuring that:

  • All sources are properly cited and referenced.
  • Written permission is obtained for any third-party copyrighted material.
  • Each co-author has contributed significantly and approved the final manuscript.
